Default Workshop given by Frits van Eldik: 20 may 2007 Zandvoort-Cicuit: Historic race

On 20 may 2007, three F-Chatters have been to the Zandvoort Circuit, to get a workshop from the Dutch Top F1-carphotographer: Frits van Eldik. They thought it would be very nice to hear him out and get some tips and tricks how to do certain things. I went along
to chaparone them.

I think it was money well spent, as you can see by yourselves by the pics following. Besides it was very enjoyable to be together; all photographers, and even F-chat.eu-photographers, on a racecircuit, with beautiful wheather, and cars on the track racing. We were all practising and had a lot of fun! And it was very interesting of course!

See by yourselve:

We (Fumacher, 250LM and me and Nofear02 on the sideline) have attended a very special workshop about car-racing photography from Frits van Eldik. Frits is worldwide wellknown for his Formula 1 action photography and he tought us some very usefull tricks today.

I have some years experience already with moving-car-photography, but found it very interesting to hear about shutterspeed, aperture, ISO speed on digital SLR and compositions. We have taken this into practise today, but best of all, we could take this information to our homes and use it in the years to come!!! I am sure we will remember this day for the rest of our lives. We will first think back to this day and when time passes we will know what we have learned today and don't have to think about it anymore... it will be in our system and we can play around

One thing Frits mentioned was that he got lots of reactions from people in the crowd that he was able to make those beautifull pictures, because he was at the guardrail, in the no-admittance zone of the track and that he has professional equipment, etc., etc. Well, his response to that is that in some situations it is much better to be in the crowd. Sometimes you are too close to the cars when you are at the guardrail, but many times you can use the 'environment' better in the crowd, making your photos more special and alive. It's just a matter of how to use the situation you are in to make the best possible picture! However, with some pictures it is very handy to be right behind the guardrail...

As you will see in the pictures that will follow, some pictures are taken at the track, but also some pictures are taken in the public area... With some pictures you can't tell.

Have fun with the pics and don't hesitate to respond with thumbs up or thumbs down comments. We have experimented a lot today, so we would love to hear your comments about what we have done (or am I mistaken Niels and Vu?? )

Bo

One more post before I go to bed... I just love this Alfa Romeo. Horrible 'pimped' wheels though, but with a slow shutter, that problem looks solved

Do you recognize the last picture Vu?

Bob/Vu/Niels; thank you for your kind words. I appreciate it very much. It was a supurb day, one you never forget. Seeying very enthousiastic-photographers having fun, in action, on a circuit was allready nice. But seeing that you got lessons from DA Fritzzz gave me a big smile on my face. I hope you can remember everything he told you and that you will implement it in the future, partly of course just by trying. And he was so friendly too!

What FANTASTIC FUN it was to be together with you on such a sunny day, on a race circuit, near the track, and all being in action. I enjoyed it a lot!! And we had a few terrific laughs too ! I noticed we can get along splendidly with eachother. We are a good team!

By the way, the whole entourage was great. The people on the circuit, the spectators and... the people of KE as well. It was a nice and friendly welcome. I would like to thank them too. What a great skybox by the way.... .

Though there was one disappointment: ..... why didn't we get one of the lenses that were on the table for free ?? Just as a thank you for us being there ?

As far as my own camerawork concerns; I'm not that satisfied. I know, it was a new camera, I had it only a few hours, and it was my first day photographing fast cars on a circuit with a tele, but this is totally different than my usual work. But; therefore extra fun too!

I will see if there are a few shots worth it to upload.... See for yourselve!
